What is Bacospore®?+

Bacospore® is a probiotic preparation containing the Gram-positive, lactic acid-producing and spore-forming bacterium Heyndrickxia coagulans, formerly called Bacillus coagulans. Its spore-forming nature supports stability during storage and survival under acidic gastrointestinal conditions.

Which probiotic strain is used?+

Bacospore® uses Heyndrickxia coagulans MTCC 25308, also deposited with the American Type Culture Collection as PTA-126364.

Is Heyndrickxia coagulans the same as Bacillus coagulans?+

Yes. Heyndrickxia coagulans is the current scientific name; Bacillus coagulans is the former, widely recognized commercial name. Weizmannia coagulans is also listed as a taxonomic synonym.

What is Bacospore® standardized to?+

Bacospore® is standardized by total viable spore count. Documented commercial strengths include 200 billion CFU/g and Bacospore® 300B with ≥300 billion viable spores/g.

What does CFU mean?+

CFU means colony-forming units: the number of viable probiotic microorganisms capable of forming colonies under the specified test conditions.

How is Bacospore® different from a generic Bacillus coagulans?+

Deposited strain identity (MTCC 25308), controlled fermentation, standardized viable spore count and strain-specific research on gastroprotective, antidiarrheal, cholesterol-lowering, anti-collagenase, antioxidant and cellular-metabolic activities.

What dose has Bacospore® been studied at?+

In the strain-specific animal studies, Bacospore® was evaluated at 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight, with the 200 mg/kg dose producing the headline gastroprotective and antidiarrheal results. For finished products, use levels are calculated from the target viable count per serving; our technical team will help you set them for your format.

How quickly does Bacospore® work?+

In preclinical rat studies, reductions in fecal output were measurable at two and four hours. In a finished product, onset depends on format, dose and the individual, so we recommend evaluating your own formulation over a defined use period.

What benefits have been studied?+

Preclinical: ~80.4% ulcer inhibition; 26.6% diarrhoea inhibition (200 mg/kg); 85.40% collagenase inhibition (200 µg/mL); 97.72% cholesterol reduction (1,000 µg/mL). In-vitro: DPPH IC₅₀ 54.19 µg/mL, the strongest of four Bacillus strains tested.

Is Bacospore® GRAS?+

Bacospore® is manufactured under WHO-GMP, ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 systems and released against defined identity, potency, heavy-metal and microbiological specifications. For the regulatory position in your market, including GRAS and NDI questions, our regulatory team will supply the current dossier.

Is Bacospore® safe?+

In cellular testing, MTCC 25308 showed high cell viability with no significant cytotoxicity under the reported conditions. The product overview also states that acute and sub-chronic animal testing of B. coagulans showed no adverse effects at recommended probiotic doses.

Is Bacospore® non-GMO?+

Yes. Bacospore® 300B is GMO-free, BSE/TSE-free, non-irradiated and not treated with ethylene oxide.

Is Bacospore® Kosher, Halal, vegan, gluten-free or allergen-free?+

The Bacospore® 300B specification carries Kosher and Halal certification marks, and the grade uses maltodextrin derived from tapioca as its excipient. Current certificates and allergen documentation are available from our quality team for finished-product label review.

What quality limits apply to Bacospore® 300B?+

Lead ≤ 3 ppm; arsenic ≤ 1 ppm; cadmium ≤ 1 ppm; mercury ≤ 0.1 ppm; yeast & mould ≤ 100 CFU/g; Salmonella, E. coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa absent per stated methods.

Can Bacospore® be used in beverages, gummies or powdered supplements?+

Yes. Bacospore® 300B is soluble in water and the H. coagulans powder is water-dispersible, making it suitable for functional foods, powders and nutraceutical formulations. We recommend format-specific stability testing, and our technical team can support it.

Is Bacospore® resistant to heat and stomach acid?+

Yes. H. coagulans spores resist heat and acidic conditions, which is what makes the spore format stable through processing and gastric transit. Because every process differs, we recommend potency testing after processing and across shelf life, and our technical team can advise on your window.

What use level should formulators select?+

Calculated from the target CFU per serving, potency of the selected grade and expected loss during processing and storage. Our technical team provides strain-specific formulation and regulatory guidance to help you finalize the dose.

What is the minimum order quantity, and can I request a sample?+

Can I use the Bacospore® name or logo on a finished product?+

Written authorization and approved brand-use guidelines must be obtained from Star Hi Herbs before placing the Bacospore® name or logo on packaging or marketing materials.

What is the shelf life and recommended storage?+

Bacospore® 300B has a two-year shelf life. Store below 25 °C in a cool, dry place, in tightly sealed containers. Avoid moisture, excessive heat and prolonged open handling.
