Gastroprotective activity
Ethanol-induced gastric ulcers, Wistar rats · n=6 per group
Oral Bacospore® at 100 or 200 mg/kg for two days. Ranitidine 20 mg/kg as reference. Ulcer index, macroscopic lesions and histopathology evaluated.
~80.4% inhibition of ulcer formation at 200 mg/kg. Reduced haemorrhagic streaks, erosions and ulcerations vs. control.
Antidiarrheal activity
Castor oil-induced diarrhoea, Wistar rats
Bacospore® at 100 or 200 mg/kg. Loperamide 1 mg/kg as standard. Wet stool weight recorded at 2 and 4 hours.
26.6% diarrhoea inhibition at 200 mg/kg (loperamide 42.4%). Wet stool weight at 4h: 1.16 ± 0.24 g vs. 1.58 ± 0.20 g control.
In-vitro collagenase inhibition
Cell-free FALGPA / ninhydrin collagenase assay
Bacospore® tested at 12.5–200 µg/mL; EDTA positive control.
Concentration-dependent inhibition. Maximum 85.40% at 200 µg/mL.
In-vitro cholesterol reduction
Cholesterol-supplemented MRS broth, 24h at 37 °C
Concentrations 31.25 – 1,000 µg/mL. Residual cholesterol measured enzymatically; bile-salt reference.
38.77% (125 µg/mL) → 97.72% (1,000 µg/mL). Bile-salt reference: 99.41%.
Antioxidant & 3T3-L1 activity
3T3-L1 preadipocyte cells and cell-free enzyme assays
MTT viability, Oil Red O, PPAR-γ ELISA, DPPH radical scavenging, α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition.
Strongest antioxidant activity of four Bacillus strains tested. DPPH IC₅₀ 54.19 µg/mL. High cell viability, moderate anti-adipogenic and α-amylase inhibition.
